Show notes for podcast #104
Overland the Americas on Venezuela, Planning a Long-Term Overland Trip, and their 78-Series Land Cruiser Troopy Build.
Summary:
With many loose ends to tie up at home, planning a long-term trip can understandably take longer than expected. In this podcast from Overland Expo West, senior editor Ashley Giordano discusses long-term trip planning with Ernesto and Taisa of Overland the Americas, and why they chose a Toyota 4Runner for their 4-year drive across all 23 contiguous countries in the Americas.
Guest Bios:
Taisa and Ernesto explored all 23 contiguous countries of the Americas in their Toyota 4Runner and rooftop tent over the course of four years. They are currently preparing for their next international overland trip in their new Toyota Land Cruiser Troopcarrier fitted with a pop-top and inside living space. As outdoor enthusiasts, and mountain lovers, remote, off-the beaten paths are their thing. Ernesto is the driver and photographer, and Taisa is the trip planner and chef. For them, there’s nothing quite like the open road.
“Sweet serendipity becomes our guide. We can chase summer, we immerse ourselves in new places and cultures, we fall in love with every dog, and we are humbled by people’s generosity and stories.” @overlandtheamericas
Host Bio
Ashley Giordano completed a 48,800-kilometer overland journey from Canada to Argentina with her husband, Richard, in their well-loved but antiquated Toyota pickup. On the zig-zag route south, she hiked craggy peaks in the Andes, discovered diverse cultures in 15 different countries, and filled her tummy with spicy ceviche, Baja fish tacos, and Argentinian Malbec. You can usually find Ashley buried in a pile of travel books, poring over maps, or researching wild medicinal plants. Ashley is a co-founder of Women Overlanding the World and crew member of Expedition Overland. You’ll find this Canadian-born couple exploring a different continent in 2021, and sharing their trip every step of the way at Desk to Glory. @desktoglory_ash
